Some days, the world just smiles at you.
Saturday was one of those days, and making it better, it was my birthday.
Cory, Shane, Chad, Jeff, Jessica and I had our fair share of wings, burgers, potatoes, etc. while watching UK improve to 5-0 (and a likely spot in the top 10), so that was good enough. [...]

Bet on it: Your guide to weekend football, Week 4
I’m ashamed of my picks from last week, suffering through a 1-3 mark in college (I’m now 5-4 on the year) and 9-7 in the pros, bringing my overall mark to 32-16.
In college, I missed out on wins by UK, Michigan and Georgia. In the NFL, it was Philadelphia, New York Jets, Green Bay, Kansas [...]

What makes up making out?
Over the past few months, a conversation continually creeps into talks I have with a female friend. Despite these in-depth discussions, we can’t reach a consensus on our debate, meaning I must now turn to you, dear blog readers, to determine the truth.
The question is this: What constitutes making out?

Heroes, Season Two: It was a dark and stormy night
Heroes, Season Two
Chapter One
“Four Months Later …”
8:53 p.m.
I’m a bit afraid of the season premiere. The commercial that just aired is a wee bit too full of itself for my taste. Many shows get far too self-important in their second season (Lost comes to mind, as does Too Close for Comfort). I hope Heroes ignores [...]

I can be your Heroes, baby
I finally finished the first season of Heroes, just in time for the second season to being at 9 p.m . Monday on NBC.
You’re no doubt asking yourself, “I wonder what took him so long to get around to this, seeing as how he’s a nerdy geek and a geeky nerd” (well, actually, you’re asking [...]

Bet on it: Your guide to weekend football
I managed a pretty fair round of picks last week, going 4-1 in college (stupid Boston College messing everything up) and 11-5 in the pros, missing out on wins by Houston, Tampa Bay, Cleveland, Arizona and Washington.
To date, my college record is 4-1, with my NFL mark at 23-9.
So, for this week, bet on this:

Prose and concerts
I’m off to see Wilco Friday night, marking the seventh time I’ve seen them perform, which ties them with Bruce Springsteen atop my list.
I’ve seen Wilco, who happens to be without question my favorite band currently playing (not to mention my all-time third favorite act behind Springsteen and The Beatles), in Lexington, Louisville, Lexington, Cincinnati, [...]

I cannot believe how much I hated Halloween
I like Rob Zombie.
He makes loud, catch music that lends itself perfectly to driving, exercising and, apparently, stripping.
His videos contained strong visuals.
His first two films, despite being gorefests that clearly aren’t for certain audiences, showed a love for 1970s era horror/exploitations flicks.
His latest, though, a remake of John Carpetner’s horror classic Halloween, well, it [...]

Bet on it: Your guide to weekend football (and the Emmys)
In what I hope becomes a tradition at “So … there I was,” (and by “tradition,” I mean “if Kevin can remember to do this on a weekly basis”) I’m going to post my predictions to the weekend’s college and pro football games. Hopefully, my readers, all two of you, will offer your predictions in [...]

My name is Strother, and I live on the second floor
Whenever strangers, new acquaintances or sales clerks seeking to check my credit card see my first name for the first time, I often get the same general reaction:
• A puzzled look at the collection of letters;
• An erroneous attempt at pronouncing it (or, if you prefer the positive outlook, a successful attempt at mispronouncing it);
• [...]
