Bet on it: Your guide to weekend football, Week 13

Thanksgiving proved to be good to me this year, from spending time with friends and family to just killing on my predictions. I went 4-2 in the college ranks, making me 27-20 on the year, and 13-3 in the NFL, lifting me up to 100-65. Not too shabby.
Let’s hope the hot streak continues:

Even if you think this blog is lame, please go see this play

I have nothing to write about.
It’s Monday. It’s 7:14 p.m. This column about It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play was due to the newsroom three days ago.
And it would have been, too, except for the teensy little problem I mentioned just 30-some words ago.
For a writer, that’s a bit of a problem.

Thanks, I think (and DO NOT go see The Mist)

I apparently have a thing for older women.
Last week, I shared a few dances with a sweet old lady at the senior citizens center.
Saturday, I took another lady of age to the Kentucky Theatre to see Singin’ in the Rain.

Bet on it: Your guide to weekend football, Week 12

It turned out to be a fairly average weekend of predicting games. I finished 2-2 on the college level, making me 23-18 on the year. In the NFL, I went 9-7, pushing my record to 87-62.
I’m hoping this week’s games give us all a bit more to be thankful about:

Huck yeah!

My friends, after careful thought and deliberation, I have finally decided to pick a candidate to back in the 2008 presidential election. After reading this, I had no choice:

May I have this dance?

I went dancing this week.
I made a friend while dancing this week.
This friend I made while dancing this week is a woman.

Bet on it: Your guide to weekend football, Week 11

That’s more like it: I’m back to that level of prognosticating mediocrity that I know so well. The college ranks found me at 1-2 last week, dropping me to 21-16 on the season, while the NFL had a less-than-favorable 6-8 mark, leaving me at 78-55 on the year.

Catching up on the world of film

Last week, I ended almost 20 years of curiosity by finally watching Beetlejuice.
My friends couldn’t believe I had never seen it. It is, after all, kind of a childhood staple and one that helped put director Tim Burton on the road to success. It’s not that I didn’t try when I was younger. Fate [...]

How to fight loneliness

Lars and the Real Girl is one of the best portraits of loneliness I have ever seen. Ryan Gosling, who is undoubtedly the best young actor in film today, plays the lead role with tenderness and sympathy, never making Lars out to be pathetic or a loser.
That was probably rather difficult, too, considering that the [...]

Bet on it: Your guide to weekend football, Week 10

Well, well, well: I had a pretty, pret-tay good week. I scored a perfect 4-0 mark in college football (20-14 on the year) and a 10-4 record in the NFL (72-47) on the year.
I’m sure this week will bring me back down to normal:
College
No. 12 Michigan at Wisconsin
Michigan is slowly creeping up the rankings. This [...]
