Return of the Jedis

They dominated in 2004.

They rolled to victory in 2005.

After a one-year retirement, they’re back and better than ever.

Ladies and gentlemen, your 2007 Skullz Fantasy Football League Champions …

A Force to be reckoned with.

For those of you keeping score at home, let’s look at the numbers for the Georgetown Jedis:
• 2000 (or maybe it was 2001; honestly I can’t remember) — Georgetown News-Graphic Fantasy Football Champions
• 2004 — Georgetown News-Graphic Fantasy Football Champions
• 2005 — Georgetown News-Graphic Fantasy Football Champions (this one included being recognized with a proclamation by the Kentucky State Senate; I’m not making that up).

And now, following a year of retirement in 2006, coaxed back into the game by Cory Graham, the Jedis once again are unfurling another banner.

Of course, it wasn’t an easy path to the title. I lost my first four games, getting blown out in the first two, then losing in squeakers by a combined total of less than a point. The Jedis became focused after that, winning 10 of their 11 games, highlighted by a dramatic come-from-behind victory over Jared Dotson in the championship game.

The Jedis owe their tremendous string of success to the players and the fans, but most of all to the coach and general manager …
It’s good to be king.

  1. Well, a big shout out to the Jedis on continuing their rich tradition with yet another title. I must make note of the fact my Vandelay Industries squad (a Seinfeld reference for those not familiar with the name), after capturing a regular season title with an 11-3 record, will play in the SEPTA Super Bowl this weekend. (SEPTA for Southeastern Pennsylvania Touchdown Association…also the name of the public transportation system that keeps Philly and its suburbs humming along) Their opponent will be the Back Order Bandits (whose owner is a Sales Manager for an organization that used to make my life interesting with delayed orders…while simultaneously overcharging me…quite an appropriate name, yes?). Vandelay already owns two wins over the Bandits this year so its highly likely come Christmas Eve I’ll be raising a cup of cheer to toast a title myself.
