2010 music: Still looking for more great albums

As it is with every December, the annual end-of-the-year “best of” lists have started rolling out in various magazines. I saw two today, from NME and Paste, neither of which had 2010’s best album, Kanye West’s “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy,” at its deserved spot at the top (NME had it in the mid-30s, which is just silly), and it started me thinking of my own list.

With a full month left in the year, I hope to experience a few more records before 2011, so I’m not compiling my complete list just yet. Instead, I’m throwing out the names of bands who I expect will be somewhere on the final cut of my top 10, with hopes that some readers will also suggest a few other bands/singers who I should listen to this month.

Until then, expect the Best Albums of 2010 to include work from the following (in no particular order):
Kanye West
The Gaslight Anthem
Bruce Springsteen
My Chemical Romance
MGMT
Arcade Fire
Big Boi
Titus Andronicus
The Black Keys
Free Energy
Cee-Lo Green
Mavis Staples
Mumford & Sons

  1. Glad to see Cee Lo Green amoung your choices. What a piece of work: The Ladykiller. The first song I heard, of course, was ‘Bleep You’ and I was hooked. The rest of the album is as worthy of your time as that song is.
